25 Things to Pack for a Cruise
25 Things to Pack for a Cruise
Ever share an Amazon account? Whether it’s with a partner, roommate, or your whole family, sometimes you just want to buy something without it showing up on the main order page. Don’t worry — it’s way easier than it looks.
Maybe you’re buying a surprise gift, or maybe you just don’t need your roommate to see that you ordered a 10-pound bag of gummy bears. Whatever the reason, I’ll show you exactly how to hide your Amazon orders and keep your purchase history private.
Amazon doesn’t have a big red “hide” button, but they have the next best thing: the Archive feature. Archiving an order removes it from your main order list, which is usually all you need.
First, log in to your Amazon account and go to “Returns & Orders” in the top-right corner. This shows you everything you’ve bought recently.
Scroll through your list and find the order you want to keep private. In the bottom-left corner of that order’s box, you’ll see a little link that says “Archive order.” Go ahead and click it.
A pop-up will ask, “Are you sure you want to archive this order?” Click the yellow “Archive order” button again to confirm. Poof! It’s gone from your main order history.
Here’s the part most people forget. Hiding the order is great, but the item you bought might still be lurking in your account’s browsing history for anyone to see. Let’s fix that.
Hover over “Account & Lists” and click on “Browsing History.” You’ll see a grid of all the items you’ve recently looked at.
Find the secret item you purchased. For each one, click the “Remove from view” button right below it. The item will disappear from your history. You can also click “Manage history” and hit “Remove all items from view” if you want to clear everything.
If you want to be extra sneaky moving forward, you can just turn off your browsing history altogether. On the “Manage history” page, just toggle the “Turn Browsing History on/off” switch to off. Problem solved for future purchases.
So, where did that order go? It’s not deleted, just tucked away. If you ever need to check on it, find a tracking number, or start a return, you can easily find it again.
Go to your “Account” page. Scroll down to the section called “Ordering and shopping preferences,” and you’ll see a link for “Archived Orders.” Click that, and you’ll see a list of everything you’ve hidden.
You can even move an order back to the main list by clicking “Unarchive Order.” It’ll show up right back where it started.
Archiving is good, but if you’re serious about keeping things separate on a shared account, here are a few other tricks I use.
This is the best long-term solution. Amazon Household lets two adults (and up to four teens/children) share Prime benefits and digital content without sharing purchase histories. Each adult gets their own account, and your orders stay completely separate. No more archiving needed for every single gift you buy for the holidays in 2026!
Sometimes the problem isn’t the order history, but the giant box showing up on the porch. To avoid that, have your order shipped to a nearby Amazon Hub Locker. You’ll get a code sent to your email or phone, and you can pick it up privately whenever you want.
If you have an Echo device, be careful! By default, Alexa might announce what’s in your delivery when it arrives. To prevent this, open your Alexa app, go to Settings > Notifications > Amazon Shopping, and turn off “For items in delivery updates.”
That’s really all there is to it. You now know how to hide your Amazon orders, clear your tracks from your browsing history, and even stop Alexa from spilling the beans.
Now you can buy all the surprise birthday presents and weirdly specific hobby supplies you want. Your secret is safe.
