Boys

Okay, let’s be real. Buying gifts for 10-year-old boys is a certified STRUGGLE. They’re in that weird in-between phase where they’re too cool for “little kid” toys but not quite ready for a car (thank god).

They’ve got opinions. So. Many. Opinions. And what was cool last week is ancient history today. It’s a lot.

Don’t worry, I got you. I waded through mountains of LEGOs, dodged way too many foam darts, and logged some serious screen time to find the absolute best 10 year old birthday gifts that won’t get a polite “thanks” before being shoved in a closet.

If He’d Rather Be Gaming

Meta Quest 4 Haptic Gloves

The Meta Quest 3 was so 2026. This year, it’s all about the accessories, and these haptic gloves are legit mind-blowing. Instead of just holding controllers, he can actually *feel* like he’s picking up objects in the virtual world. I tried it with a game called ‘Cosmic Smash’ and flinched when a meteor got close. It’s wild.

They’re a bit of a splurge, for sure. But if he’s already deep into VR, this is the upgrade that will make all his friends insanely jealous. Trust me on this one.

Playdate Pro Handheld

Remember the original Playdate with the little crank? It’s back and so much better. The Playdate Pro has a full-color screen and a library of hundreds of quirky, exclusive indie games you can’t get on a Switch or Xbox.

It’s the perfect “I’m bored in the car” toy. I loved that the games are super creative and not just the same old battle royale stuff. Plus, the retro vibe is just cool.

For the Kid Who Loves to Build (and Rebuild)

LEGO Starship Odyssey Set

LEGO is always a good idea, but you have to pick the *right* set. The new Starship Odyssey one is perfect for a 10th birthday. It’s got over 1,500 pieces, a bunch of weird-looking aliens, and parts that actually move.

It took my nephew (with a little of my expert help, obvi) a full weekend to build. It’s challenging enough to keep him busy but not so hard he’ll give up and leave it for you to finish. A total win.

KiwiCo Tinker Crate Subscription

Tired of buying one-and-done toys? Get him a subscription. The KiwiCo Tinker Crate is my absolute favorite for this age group. Every month, a box shows up with a new STEM project, like building a mini catapult or a working speaker.

Everything you need is in the box, and the instructions are actually clear. It’s a gift that keeps him off screens and genuinely makes him use his brain. And you look like a hero every single month.

For the Kid Who Needs Fresh Air

Aero-X Hover Scooter

His old Razor scooter is probably collecting dust. The Aero-X is what all the kids in my neighborhood are riding in 2026. It’s electric, has these cool LED lights on the wheels, and a surprisingly zippy motor.

I will say, a helmet is non-negotiable with this thing. But it’s super sturdy and gives him a legit reason to go play outside. It’s one of the best toys for a 10 year old who has a little too much energy.

Snap-Style Nano Drone

Drones can be complicated, but this one is basically foolproof. The camera is decent for the price, but the best part is the “Snap-Style” flight controls. He can literally draw a path on a phone screen and the drone will follow it.

It’s small enough that it’s not a total menace, and it’s surprisingly durable. I may or may not have crashed it into a bush a few times for… testing purposes. It survived.

What to Look For in Presents for 10 Year Olds

Look, the key to finding the perfect present for a 10 year old is to respect his interests but also push him a little. If he loves video games, get him an accessory that changes how he plays. If he’s a builder, find a kit that actually teaches him something new.

Don’t be afraid to ask him what he’s into! But use that as a starting point, not a shopping list. The best gifts are the ones that are a little bit of a surprise. Now go be the cool aunt/mom/friend who gives the best birthday gifts. You’ve got this.
